I was contacted by a genealogist three months ago, informing me that I was the heir of a person who had just died. Does the genealogist have a time limit to give me information about the estate?

No. The estate can not be settled until all the heirs have been found by the genealogist . But each case is different and the difficulties in locating the heirs are not the same from one succession to another. Therefore, it is not possible to impose a uniform disclosure period.
