Fraud and Scams Are Increasing

Bank account fraud and scams are on the rise, especially in property transactions involving notaries. Protect your data and financial security by following these essential tips.

Essential Security Guidelines

Always communicate directly with your notary for any fund transfer. Do not go through a bank, as identity theft involving bank employees is common.
No French notary will ever ask you to transfer funds to a foreign bank.
Notaries’ professional accounts are exclusively held with the Caisse des Dépôts et Consignations (CDC).

A notary’s bank details (RIB) can never come from another bank.
All transfers must go to a CDC account with the BIC code: CDCGFRPPXXX. Always verify this before sending funds.

Verify Email and Contact Details

Official notary email addresses end with @notaires.fr or .notaires.fr.
If the email address differs from the one usually used by your notary, contact them immediately.
Check official contact details in the Notaires de France directory.

Avoid Cybersecurity Risks

  • Do not click on links in unsolicited emails.
  • Do not open suspicious attachments.
  • Do not reply to fraudulent messages—delete them immediately.

Stay vigilant and secure your transactions with your notary’s assistance.
